   DNA Testing FAQs

  1. Can I find out if I’m the father before the baby is born?
Yes. Non-invasive prenatal paternity testing can determine biological paternity during pregnancy using a blood sample from the pregnant mother and a DNA sample from the alleged father. Eligibility depends on gestational age and laboratory requirements.

  2. I have my child regularly. Can I bring them in for a DNA test?
If you are the child’s parent or legal guardian and have authority to consent, testing may be scheduled. Photo identification and documentation confirming legal authority may be required.

  3. What is the difference between a legal DNA test and a private DNA test?
A legal DNA test follows documented chain-of-custody procedures and is intended for court, agency, immigration, or other official use. A private test is generally for personal knowledge only.

  4. Can I test a grandparent, sibling, or other relative if the alleged father is unavailable?
Yes. Relationship testing may be available for grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and other relatives. The best test depends on the family members available.

  5. What do I need to bring to my DNA testing appointment?
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID and any court, attorney, agency, or laboratory paperwork that applies to your case. We will confirm any additional requirements before your appointment.
